I am sure most of you are aware that if you don’t eat anything, you will eventually get sick, lose weight, and after about three weeks, you will die. If you don’t drink liquids of any kind, after about three days, especially in harsh environments, you will die. While I was studying the indigenous women in Hidalgo, Mexico, I learned just how difficult it is for people to survive in a harsh desert environment. But most people are not aware that their health challenges often are the result of an imbalance in microflora hidden inside their gut. If we cannot digest the food we eat, then we cannot benefit from the micronutrients within the food, impacting our growth and development and our ability to fight disease and remain healthy. Fix your gut, fix your health problem!

Our health conditions really begin at the moment of conception. What our mothers and grandmothers ate throughout their lives continue to influence our in utero development and our eating behaviors from birth. In addition, what we are fed at birth (breastmilk, formula, weaning foods) determines our physical development as well as the health challenges we struggle with as adults. While we are developing in utero, our growth and development is being influenced by the nutrients that are being metabolized by our mothers. During birth, beneficial bacterial cultures, essential for efficient metabolism, are established as we enter the world through our mother’s vaginal tract.

Children born via cesarean section never receive this maternal gut microflora. If a baby is born via c-section, especially if they are premature, they are often not given breastmilk that establishes the essential beneficial microflora required to digest foods and provide passive and longterm immunity to the infant. These infants are then subjected to vaccines that have a negative impact on their immune system and often cause autoimmunity and autism. Too often within the first year of life, these babies are placed on antibiotics to eradicate infections that are caused by a lack of the passive and active immune protection provided by the breastmilk that they never received! At this point, they are left with virtually NO beneficial microflora essential for efficient metabolism and digestion. Without the protection of this essential microbiome, these infants are then weaned on processed, refined foods that are saturated with glyphosate and other toxic chemicals causing devastating intestinal damage.

To exacerbate this lack of digestive preparation, most American infants are fed formulas consisting of nearly 50% sugars, addicting the baby to sugar before they even walk. Scientific studies have shown that formula-fed babies have a much higher risk of becoming obese. Dr. Martin Blaser, author of Missing Microbes, suggests that the over-use of antibiotics has contributed to an imbalance of beneficial intestinal flora, resulting in an inability to modulate appetite, leading to over-eating and obesity. This situation is only exacerbated by the lack of appropriate breastfeeding practices in America. At least two years of breastfeeding is essential to establish an infant’s beneficial gut microflora and a healthy immune system. Breastfeeding for at least two years provides breast cancer protection for the mother and the female infant in addition to prostate cancer protection for the male infant. Adequate breastfeeding practices also protect the infant against digestive system disorders, diabetes, obesity, depression, autoimmune disorders, cancers and heart disease later in their life. Unfortunately, these breastfeeding behaviors have virtually disappeared from the American way of life.

Our digestive system requires a delicate balance of enzymes and intestinal or gut microflora to function. Without these, we cannot digest anything. These enzymes and microflora are dependent on, and highly influenced by, the hormones produced by our endocrine system. Our endocrine system is influenced today by more than 90,000 endocrine-disrupting toxins that are in our environment, our food and our water supply as a consequence of harmful government policies and business practices, especially agribusiness that produces American food. The vast majority of these toxins have never been tested for human safety.

We are all familiar with the prevalence of products and gut pharmaceuticals advertised on television and the internet that address digestive symptoms, such as Pepcid, Zantac, and Tums. Foods rich in prebiotics and probiotics such as kefir or yogurt are now advertised and sold to potentially improve our “gut flora.” Imbalanced gut flora has become a worldwide epidemic causing devastating health disorders!!

For the past sixty years, the scientific community and federal and private funding have been focused primarily on cancer research, with the goal of isolating those substances that are known to be carcinogens. In fact, that is the only category that usually leads to changes in public policy and legislation. However, as Theo Colburn warned us in Our Stolen Future, there is a much greater insidious danger that has been present in our environment since 1927, when the first PCB-like chemical, a by-product of coal tar, was manufactured by the Swann Chemical Company, the company that was then purchased by the Monsanto Industrial Chemical Company in 1935. Monsanto Corporation has manufactured nearly every chemical toxin known to be responsible for the growing destruction of our planet. The most dangerous toxins include PCB’s, dioxin, Agent Orange, DDT, and the herbicide glyphosate, the main ingredient in Round-Up weed killer.

In October 2016, Monsanto, along with several other multinational chemical corporations like Bayer, Chem China and Syngenta, were tried by a world tribunal at The Hague for crimes against humanity and the planetary environment referred to as genocide and ecocide. These corporations were found guilty, setting an excellent legal precedent for future action that will be taken by courts of law to reduce the power of these huge corporate entities and eventually reverse the devastating damage these corporations have perpetrated on our environment and the incredible suffering imposed on the people who inhabit this planet.

These chemical toxins are known as “endocrine disruptors.” Endocrine disruptors interrupt hormonal messages, impact the speed of hormonal messages, imitate natural hormones, and alter hormonal production in specific regions of the body, especially during infant and child development. These toxins combine with other toxic chemicals to disrupt the delicate hormonal dance that takes place from the moment of conception. This endocrine disruption leads to lowered intelligence, behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders, autoimmune disorders, reproductive disorders, birth defects, digestive disorders, obesity, diabetes, thyroid disorders and cancers.

If we cannot metabolize or utilize the micronutrients in our food, then we cannot develop, we cannot reproduce, and we cannot overcome life-threatening diseases. It is essential to re-establish the gut microbiome as a foundation to human survival.

To begin our discussion on the disorders of the digestive system such as celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, hemorrhoids, colon cancer, lymphocytic colitis, Crohn’s disease and GERD or gastro-esophageal reflux disease, let’s consider this quote from a recently published article:

Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup®, is the most popular herbicide used worldwide. The industry asserts it is minimally toxic to humans, but here we argue otherwise. Residues [of glyphosate] are found in [all vaccines] and the main foods of the Western diet, comprised primarily of sugar, corn, soy and wheat. Glyphosate’s inhibition of cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes is an overlooked component of its toxicity to mammals. CYP enzymes play crucial roles in biology, one of which is to detoxify xenobiotics [chemical substances that are foreign to the human body such as endocrine disruptors]. Thus, glyphosate enhances the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and environmental toxins. The negative impact on the body is insidious and manifests slowly over time as inflammation damages cellular systems throughout the body. Here, we show how interference with CYP enzymes acts synergistically with disruption of the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids by gut bacteria, as well as impairment in serum sulfate transport. Consequences are most of the diseases and conditions associated with a Western diet, which include gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. We explain the documented effects of glyphosate and its ability to induce disease, and we show that glyphosate is the “textbook example” of exogenous semiotic entropy: the disruption of homeostasis by environmental toxins.   (Dr. Anthony Samsel and Dr. Stephanie Seneff, “Glyphosate’s Suppression of Cytochrome P450 Enzymes and Amino Acid Biosynthesis by the Gut Microbiome: Pathways to Modern Diseases.” Entropy 2013, vol. 15, pp. 1416-1463.)

As this article reports, glyphosate enhances the harmful effects of other environmental toxins and food additives resulting in nearly all of the health conditions so prevalent in America today including autoimmune disorders, obesity, anorexia nervosa and other devastating digestive disorders. Dr. Seneff notes that this process is induced by glyphosate exposure in our food and water supply. She also indicates that glyphosate is the most biologically disruptive chemical in our environment today and will be responsible for more than half of our female children and nearly 80% of our male children being born with autism spectrum disorder within the next decade.

Endocrine disruptors like glyphosate have almost NO effect on the highly pathogenic strains of Salmonella and Clostridium, but have been shown to have a devastating effect on the beneficial bacteria such as Enterococcus, bacillus and lactobacillus, essential to healthy gut flora. Clostridium difficile is known to cause intestinal colitis. Formula-fed infants have lots of this bacterium in their gut.

Impaired sulfur oxidation and low levels of serum sulfate have been linked to autism since 1990. In addition, both colitis and Crohn’s disease are associated with sulfur depletion. Depleted sulfate in the gut can cause inflammatory bowel disease and a chronic condition known as the “leaky gut syndrome” or increased intestinal permeability. Gut inflammation then leads to tryptophan deficiency, causing serotonin and melatonin depletion in the brain, associated with insomnia and depression. Severe tryptophan deficiency leads to inflammatory bowel disease and this inflammation then sets the stage for numerous autoimmune disorders, such as fibromyalgia, diabetes type I, Hashimoto’s thyroid disorder, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. Thus, a malfunctioning gut becomes a never-ending cycle of suffering and disease.

As we have discussed, all digestive system disorders are caused by free radical damage as a result of exposure to these endocrine disruptive toxins. When free radical damage becomes excessive, this causes oxidative stress that leads to massive inflammation. Digestive system disorders often begin with irreversible damage caused by the method of our entry into this life, how we were fed as an infant, and the toxins and food additives we have been exposed to through our food and the environment since our birth, especially the herbicides glyphosate and atrazine, both common contaminants in the American food and water supply. MMF, or maximum micronutrient formulation, was designed to neutralize free radical damage, reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, help the body to repair double-strand DNA breaks that initiate tumor growth and nourish our cells. This process restores our body cells’ natural ability to maintain good health.

The real solution for all digestive disorders is to heal the gut, re-establish healthy microflora, feed the body with powerful micronutrients such as those found in MMF, and eat organic whole foods, especially those having the micronutrients found in sulfur-rich cruciferous vegetables and the antioxidant-rich foods such as white tea, berries, dried beans and dark-colored fruits and vegetables to heal and maintain our health.

MMF works most effectively because of the CQF standard, offering the perfect combination of micronutrients, the perfect amount of each one, and in the perfect form or the isoform of each micronutrient or antioxidant. Isoforms are identical in molecular structure to what is found in nature. The body uses these micronutrients at the genetic level to address all our health threats without having to metabolize them. While you are healing your gut, re-establishing the beneficial microflora, and restoring a healthy gut microbiome, MMF continues to nourish and sustain your body.

These are some examples of digestive disorders common in America today:

Celiac disease, which affects 1 in 133 Americans or about 1% of the population, is having a major impact on our dietary choices, since the ONLY treatment offered at this point is a gluten-free diet. Gluten-free food sales are expected to reach $5 billion this year. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes destruction of the small intestinal villi, the structure responsible for the absorption of micronutrients from foods. This autoimmune disorder is also triggered by weaning practices such as offering refined grain products like teething biscuits or graham crackers – foods that are made from hybridized wheat flour – to an infant before the age of one. Infants younger than 12 months do not have the digestive enzymes in sufficient quantity to efficiently digest this adulterated wheat product, thus the wheat flour is perceived by their digestive system as a foreign pathogen triggering an autoimmune response leading to the destruction of the small intestinal villi. Research studies have shown that when individuals suffering with celiac disease consume whole organic heirloom einkorn wheat or organic kamut wheat, both non-GMO ancient wheat forms with 14 chromosomes (hybridized modern wheats contain 42 chromosomes), they do not manifest any symptoms.

Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that can be extremely debilitating and is associated with severe ulceration and pain. According to the Western Medical System, there is no known cause. As we have discussed, however, there are chemical toxins in our environment and our food supply that are known to lead to chronic inflammation, and this condition is most likely associated with childbirth and infant feeding practices in addition to exposure to glyphosate-laden foods. We are reaping the rewards of several generations of American mothers choosing to formula-feed their infants.

Colon cancer is known to be associated with a high dietary intake of nitrates and nitrites found most abundantly in barbecued meats, processed or deli meats and red meat, including grass-fed beef. Upon entering the stomach, nitrates convert to nitrosamines that are dangerous carcinogens that cause cancer. All cancers are initiated by double-strand DNA breaks leading to mutations that trigger the formation of tumors. MMF has been shown in human clinical double-blind placebo studies to repair nearly 60% of double-strand DNA breaks caused by ionizing radiation, and within 24 hours, returns the individual to baseline levels, in other words, assists the body to repair ALL double-strand DNA breaks.

GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease, is linked to a high dietary intake of saturated fats, especially from animal products. If those suffering with GERD eat smaller meals and eliminate saturated fat intake, as well as their high sugar intake, especially high fructose corn syrup (found in cold cereals, commercially baked products, condiments, packaged, processed food products), these choices can dramatically assist them in controlling this disorder. This disorder is often associated with an impaired ability to metabolize fats or lipids and is linked to endocrine-disrupting chemicals in the environment such as glyphosate.

The Standard American Diet is excessively high in saturated fats primarily from animal products, high in sugar content primarily from high fructose corn syrup, and high in refined grain products such as pizza, breads, rolls, pasta, crackers, and baked goods, especially those produced by fast food restaurants. The original high fructose corn syrup contained 42-55% fructose. The new HFCS-90 contains 90% fructose, and the FDA is allowing the food suppliers to label this ingredient as just fructose. The FDA also legally allows the manufacturer to put the words, “HFCS-free” on the label.

After years of not eating correctly and having no microflora or the digestive enzymes essential to digest food, American teenagers eat primarily French fries and potato chips, their only daily consumption of vegetables, and have virtually no intake of vitamin Bs. Vitamin Bs are water-soluble vitamins that are critical for brain and gut health and must be consumed daily. These vitamins are found most abundantly in whole grains and dark leafy green vegetables, both of which are virtually unknown in the American diet. Since most Americans rarely eat organic dark leafy vegetables and never eat WHOLE grain, such as quinoa, millet or bulgur wheat, with all these micronutrients, we are in desperate need of changing our diet to alleviate the issue of vitamin B deficiency that leads to poor gut and brain health.

There is no danger of toxicity when consuming a mineral, vitamin or antioxidant from whole foods. The only danger from toxicity is with the consumption of laboratory-created artificial supplements. This is exactly why it is so important to use MMF, the safest supplement available on earth, to neutralize free radical damage, improve immunity, and reduce inflammation. What distinguishes MMF from other supplements is the CQF standard, or combination, quantity and form. MMF contains the exact combination of essential micronutrients necessary for human health, and none of the micronutrients that can potentially cause harm such as iron, copper, manganese, or vanadium. MMF also contains the exact quantity of the micronutrients that work most efficiently together. MMF contains only the isoform of these micronutrients. Isoforms of micronutrients have the identical molecular structure to what is found in nature. The isoform can be readily standardized and utilized immediately at the genetic level without impacting our metabolic pathways. Since many Americans are unwilling or unable to modify their dietary intake, the value of MMF in treating the various digestive system disorders becomes even more critical.

The best thing you could possibly do to neutralize free radical damage, supercharge your immune system, reduce inflammation especially in the gut, chelate heavy metals such as mercury, lead, and chemical endocrine-disrupting toxins such as glyphosate improving your chances for a healthy gut is to take MMF every day.

If you suffer from the many symptoms of bad gut flora including gas and bloating, constipation or diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, headaches, sugar cravings, and refined food cravings, then you need to do the following things:

  1. Make seed tea every day. Seed tea is made by bringing 4 cups of reverse osmosis structured water to boil, reduce to simmer, add ½ tsp each of cumin, coriander and fennel seeds to the water, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Strain off and discard seeds and sip the tea slowly all day long.
  2. Take Organic Digest Tone Triphala Plus by VPK, an anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-cancer compound of three berries from India that are known to heal leaky gut, nourish beneficial microflora, regulate blood sugar, reduce blood pressure and prevent heart disease.
  3. Take Nature’s Way Primadophilus Optima Intensive 200 billion probiotic once daily and eat fermented foods such as tofu, tempeh, natto, and kefir unless you have a candida overgrowth. If you suffer with yeast infections, contact Dr. Hodson at 801-735-8445 for further assistance.
  4. Take MMF, or maximum micronutrient formulation, at least 2 capsules twice daily so that your body can receive the nourishment it needs at the genetic level to restore the function of your body’s cells enabling your body to heal itself.
  5. Begin eating a whole food, plant-based diet avoiding all processed, packaged and refined foods.
